DetailsThe development of China’s cosmetics regulatory framework has for some time lagged behind its global counterparts, negatively impacting cosmetics trade between China and other countries and hampered technical innovation and development of safety evaluation methodologies. Under increased pressure from domestic industry and global enterprise, in 2013 CFDA undertook its most important regulatory reform overhauling the entire regulatory framework through amendment of the overarching cosmetics law. Widespread regulatory reform is expected in the future and will necessitate heightened compliance requirements from domestic and international stakeholders. In this report an interpretation of 2013's new cosmetics regulatory updates is provided along with regulatory predictions for 2014.
