On 29 Nov, Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) released the revised rules for labelling and advertising of cosmetics, which will take effect from 1 Mar 2014 and initially apply to products that are manufactured and imported for the first time.

CFDA Alerts 6 Cosmetic Products Containing Banned or Restricted Substances

On 2 Dec 2013, CFDA released a list of whitening and hair dyeing cosmetic products which failed spot checks conducted by provincial FDAs in Hebei, Jilin, Fujian, Shandong and Hunan provinces. A brightening cleanser produced by Avon was found to contain Phenol, a substance prohibited under the Hygienic Standard for Cosmetics 2007.

Japan MHLW decided at a meeting held on 27 Nov to strengthen the reporting system of adverse effects of cosmetics and quasi-drugs, in light of the Kanebo’s skin-whitening product scandal. Cosmetic companies in Japan will be required to report the adverse reactions of cosmetics within 15 days
