China-Korean Free Trade Agreement Expected to Be Signed This May

After lengthy negotiations China and Korean are expected to sign Free Trade Agreement (FTA) this May. Hopefully, the FTA will be implemented before the end of this year. Within 20 years of its implementation, China will eliminate 91% import tariffs levied on Korean products while Korea will eliminate 92% of import tariffs on Chinese products.

China to Adjust Import Tariff and Cosmetic Consumption Tax

The State Council of China recently announced that it will carry out a pilot project before the end of June to reduce the import tariff levied on some overseas consumer goods (the scope will be extended in the future). Another major change planned by China’s government proposes amendment to China’s consumption tax policy for mass consumer products, such as clothing, cosmetics, etc.

Korea Updates Quasi-drug Production Standards

Korea MFDS released the revised rules of the “Standards for Production of Quasi-drugs” to improve efficiency of application and review of quasi-drugs and to increase consumer‘s trust in the safety and efficacy of products. The period for public consultation will end on June 15 2015.

Coal Tar to Be Banned from Cosmetics in Taiwan

On April 20, 2014, "Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare" officially announced the release of a regulation that all products containing coal tar are prohibited from import, manufacture, sale, supply or marketing in Taiwan starting from January 1, 2016.

According to import and export trade data released by the Korean Tariff Administration, Korea’s cosmetics exports in March reached over 0.27 billion dollars, the biggest increase since January 2000.

Korea Revises Cosmetic Labelling and Advertising Standards

Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) released amendments to Guidelines for Management of Labelling and Advertising of Cosmetics. The new rules will enter into force from 24 June 2015 and initially apply to products manufactured and imported for the first time.
