China Cracking Down on False Cosmetic Advertising

On Sep. 30, China National Radio and Television Administration announced that a special rectification campaign targeting incompliant radio and TV advertisements would run from the date of announcement until the end of 2018.

The crackdown focuses on nine types of advertisements which utilize terminology deemed as exaggerated, deceptive, misleading and fraudulent and will cover pharmaceutical products, health care products, cosmetics and beauty products and three financial products.

Cosmetic stakeholders shall strictly comply with relevant national regulations and rules such as the Advertising Law. Any violations found during supervision and inspection conducted by the radio and television administrative departments at all levels will be dealt with pursuant to the "Measures for Handling Violation by Radio and Television Broadcasting Agencies". Serious violations will be subject to publication and/or suspension of advertising activities.
