On December 15, 2020, India released and implemented the Cosmetics Rules 2020. To streamline the import registration process of cosmetics and facilitate enterprises’ businesses, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) published a collection of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and a guidance document for cosmetic import registration under the new regime on January 19, 2021. The Guidance Document provides guidance on submission requirements for obtaining cosmetic import registration certificate for import of cosmetics into India.
Notably, it is aimed only for creating public awareness about Cosmetics Regulation by CDSCO and is not meant to be used for legal or professional purposes. The readers are advised to refer to the statutory provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Cosmetics Rules 2020, Notifications in the Official Gazette published by Central Government and Guidelines/Clarifications issued by CDSCO time to time for all their professional needs.
