On December 15, 2022, the Governor of New York State signed into law Assembly Bill A5653B and Senate Bill S4839B, known as the New York Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act. Effective from January 1, 2023, these bills enforce a ban on the production and sale of cosmetics that rely on new animal testing for safety assessment within the state. Violators face fines of up to $5,000, with an additional daily penalty of $1,000 for each day of non-compliance.
