Considering the unique characteristics of cosmetics containing nanomaterials, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released the Guidelines for Risk Assessment of Cosmetics with Nanomaterials (the Guidelines) to enhance product safety management and standardize document requirements.
The Guidelines is divided into two parts: physicochemical property assessment and safety assessment. It specifies that the physicochemical property assessment shall be conducted before the safety assessment to determine whether the nanomaterial could influence the subsequent safety evaluation. The safety assessment includes tests for acute toxicity, irritation and corrosiveness, skin sensitization, and other criteria, aligning with the regulatory frameworks of Taiwan's major international counterparts.
