On August 6, 2021, Illinois enacted the PFAS Reduction Act (SB 2516), which prohibited the use of class B firefighting foam with intentionally added PFAS for training or testing from January 1, 2022, and banned its manufacture, sale, and distribution from January 1, 2025.
On August 15, 2025, the Act was amended through HB 2516 to extend the ban to cosmetics, dental floss, juvenile products, menstrual products, and intimate apparel containing intentionally added PFAS, effective January 1, 2032.
