The Drug and Cosmetics Act 1940 is an Act to regulate the import, manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs and cosmetics in India; The Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 stipulates the requirements for the central drugs laboratory, import of cosmetics, government analysts and inspectors, licensing authorities and controlling authorities, conditions of license, etc. This compile was amended in 2016.

Note: The Drug and Cosmetics Act 1940 is still in force while the Drug and Cosmetics Rules 1945 were superseded by a new and updated regulation, Cosmetics Rules 2020.
