On January 12, 2026, China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) released a new supplementary testing method, BJH 202502 Determination of 4 Components Including Sudan I (CI 12055) in Cosmetics. This new method comes in response to an industry-wide scandal in late 2025 where Sudan dyes, which are prohibited ingredients, were detected in certain cosmetic products. It expands the testing scope to a wider range of product categories and establishes stricter detection limits. The method is effective from the date of issuance.
