The method specifies the procedure for enumeration of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, yeast, and mould present in cosmetic products.
Method for enumeration of microorganisms from cosmetic products is direct colony counts. Products that are not soluble in water are initially treated to render them miscible before enumeration procedures are conducted. The possible inhibition of microbial growth by the sample shall be neutralized to allow the detection of viable microorganism. In all cases and whatever the methodology, the neutralization of the antimicrobial properties of the product shall be checked and validated.
