China Blueprints Cosmetic Regulatory Reforms

5 Nov 2013, China Food & Drug Administration (CFDA) unveiled a draft measure aimed at partially revising the current regulatory system for pre-market assessment of cosmetics. The draft measure is currently undergoing public consultation until 12-Nov-2013.

Be Cruelty-Free Campaign Promoting to End Cosmetics Animal Testing in China Launches

Be Cruelty-Free, the world’s largest campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics globally, has launched in China to promote beauty without animal suffering. Humane Society International, Chinese NGOs, academic scientists and global retailer LUSH Cosmetics are calling for China to end its mandatory testing of cosmetics on live animals.

Stay Current: China’s Cosmetic Safety Assessment Regulatory Landscape
Under the current regulatory framework, cosmetics registrants and notifiers can continue to submit a simplified version of the safety assessment report during the registration or notification process until May 1, 2025. Following this deadline, a full version of the safety assessment will be mandated. To facilitate a smooth transition, China is planning to release a set of technical guidelines.
China’s Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (STSC) and Its Updates
The current cosmetic technical standard STSC 2015 specifies the cosmetics' general safety standards, prohibited/restricted/permitted ingredients and testing methods.
