India Notifies the Draft Cosmetics Rules 2018 to the WTO

On June 21, 2019, the Draft Cosmetics Rules 2018 (G/TBT/N/IND/101) was notified to the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee of WTO.

According to ChemLinked’s previous report [1], India Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a draft cosmetics rules in November 2018 proposing to establish a new separate legislative framework for the management of cosmetic manufacture, import, registration and sale in India.

On June 21, 2019, the Draft Cosmetics Rules 2018 (G/TBT/N/IND/101) was notified to the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee of WTO, member comments will be accepted for 60 days [2]. The effective date of the notified regulation is undetermined and shall be subject to the final notification in Gazette of India.

TBT Committee

It refers to a unique multilateral forum aiming to create a predictable trading environment and facilitate trade via WTO members’ discussion of regulations, standards, testing and certification procedures affecting trade.
