On April 16, 2024, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) published a booklet titled Common Improvement Cases in the Evaluation of Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP)1. This booklet aims to enhance the quality management capabilities of cosmetic manufacturers and help them secure competitiveness.
Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) is a set of standards for quality and manufacturing management in the cosmetics industry. Through on-site inspections, certification is granted to establishments that meet these standards.
Although CGMP is a voluntary application, as more companies are engaged in producing CGMP product, the authority has decided to release the booklet, introducing the overview of major improvement cases in CGMP evaluations in the past five years (2019-2023) for enterprises.
Based on the booklet, common cases requiring improvement in CGMP evaluations over the past five years include:
Personnel reasons
➊ Inadequate evaluation after employee training completion
➋ Absence of an annual education and training plan
Manufacturing reasons
➊ Lack of procedures for incoming raw materials
➋ Failure to conduct regular performance checks on measurement and testing equipment
Quality reasons
➊ Failure to verify the suitability of test results as per the standards
➋ Absence of set criteria for sample collection and storage period for finished products.
The MFDS expects that this booklet will assist the industry in preparing for CGMP evaluations, and plans to actively support the introduction of CGMP to enable companies to smoothly produce and sell products of excellent quality. DOWNLOAD the booklet below.
