Taiwan is planning to revise the “Statute for Control of Cosmetic Hygiene”, according to Lin Yijie, an official from "Taiwan Food and Drug Administration", a department of "Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare" (MoHW).

This statute is the overarching cosmetic regulation in Taiwan, spelling out the most basic requirements for importation, sale and manufacture of cosmetics or cosmetic colorants. Supporting this statute is a series of subordinate rules, standards and guidance documents. The latest revision of the statute was released on June 12, 2002.

Lin spoke to ChemLinked stating that, “the focus of the amendment would be the strengthening of manufacturers/importers self-management and products post-market surveillance.” With regard to the timeline of the revision work, Lin stated that the FDA is now only at an early planning stage, “I have no idea about the detailed timeline and specific revision contents as well”.
