Industry Guide for the Labelling of Cosmetics

This guide is designed to assist in the preparation of labels that comply with Canadian regulatory requirements for cosmetics. The guide contains:

• a description of the Acts and Regulations from which the labelling requirements for cosmetics are derived;

• definitions of terms;

• current interpretations of labelling requirements based on legal precedents and advisory opinions established over a number of years, and;

• sources of further information.

Note: The industry guideline is not a legally binding act or regulation in Canada. Rather, it serves as an interpretive document that consolidates the requirements outlined in relevant acts and regulations. Nonetheless, it is recommended that enterprises adhere to the guidelines to ensure compliance.
