On April 16, 2024, Maine enacted further amendments to L.D. 1503 through the passage of An Act to Amend the Laws Relating to the Prevention of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances Pollution (S.P. 610 - L.D. 1537). These revisions expanded and clarified the restrictions on PFAS in cosmetics. Effective January 1, 2026, Maine will prohibit the sale of: cosmetic products that contain intentionally added PFAS; and cosmetics without intentionally added PFAS that are packaged in fluorinated containers or in containers with intentionally added PFAS.
