On August 28, 2023, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued amendments to the Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015) (STSC), including updates to the Inventory of Prohibited Ingredients for Cosmetics. Specifically, benvimod was newly added to the inventory, and a note was introduced for benzene, stipulating that when its presence as an impurity is technically unavoidable, its level shall not exceed 2mg/kg.
