Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (S.C. 1999, c. 33)

In Canada, all ingredients, including those in cosmetics, are subject to Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA).

Two streams under CEPA treated differently based on whether the substance is on the national chemical inventory (Domestic Substances List - DSL):

• New Substances (subject to New Substances Notification Regulations)

• Existing Substances – Substances screened, categorized and prioritized for assessment under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP)
