Taiwan to Implement a New List of Legal Cosmetic Colorants

Taiwan FDA recently published a revised List of Legal Colorants in Cosmetics, which will enter into force since Jan 1 2016. This new list includes only 93 colorants, 21 fewer than the previous version. In addition the colorants are now divided into 4 categories in the new list while the previous list only contained two categories.

Taiwan is planning to revise the “Statute for Control of Cosmetic Hygiene”, according to Lin Yijie, an official from "Taiwan Food and Drug Administration", a department of "Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare" (MoHW).

Taiwan Requires Registration of Cosmetics Containing Triclocarban
Jan 14, 2015
On Jan 12, 2015, "Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare" (MOHW) officially announced the implementation of the addition of Triclocarban into the Standard List of Maximum Levels of Medical, Poisonous or Potent Drugs in Cosmetics. For manufacture or importation of cosmetic products containing Triclocarban used under the maximum level, an application shall be submitted to the central competent health authority for product examination and registration. The product can be manufactured or imported only after a license is issued. It is prohibited to use or import Triclocarban beyond the maximum level in cosmetics.

Stay Current: China’s Cosmetic Safety Assessment Regulatory Landscape
Under the current regulatory framework, cosmetics registrants and notifiers can continue to submit a simplified version of the safety assessment report during the registration or notification process until May 1, 2025. Following this deadline, a full version of the safety assessment will be mandated. To facilitate a smooth transition, China is planning to release a set of technical guidelines.
