Takehome:

Australia's new scheme "Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS)", which also regulates cosmetics will be delayed until the 1st of July 2019.

News released earlier that the new system would be effective from July 1st 2018 (see news on CL) is no longer relevant. The legislation to establish AICIS and set its new commencement date is now expected to be debated in the Australian Senate later this year. Government amendments to change the commencement date will be addressed at that time. The commencement date change will also mean that certain aspects including the ban on animal testing will also be delayed until 1 July 2019 (see earlier news about animal testing ban date).

The current regulatory scheme for industrial chemicals (NICNAS) will remain in place until AICIS commences.
