Takehome: Eleven batches of facial masks have been newly identified as failing to meet regulatory standards according to the latest “notification of 11 batches of sub-standard facial masks” by CFDA, ten days after the governing body announced an earlier notification targeting eight batches of sub-standard facial masks.
The latest developments are just one outcome from a much larger national campaign being undertaken by the CFDA to tackle cosmetic safety issues in China, and has uncovered 8 new offenders, including:
·Shanghai LongYoung Daily Chemical Co., Ltd.
·Shanghai XueDai Daily Chemical Co., Ltd.
·Pinhu Saimery Biotech Co., Ltd.
·Guangzhou Liannaji Cosmetic Co., Ltd.
·Ailushu Cosmetic Factory of Baiyun District of Guangzhou City
·Guangzhou Zhuangyuan Cosmetic Co., Ltd.
·Guangzhou Yuzhao Cosmetic Co. Ltd.
·Huizhou Sevenic Cosmetic Co. Ltd.
Zhejiang, Shanghai and Guangdong FDA have already launched thorough inspections of the specific batches and sales channels of the targeted products. Production lines have been ordered to suspend activities while the problem products are being recalled from retail outlets.
A report will be compiled from data and important information recorded during the inspection campaign for use by other FDAs in case they encounter these products within their jurisdictions. Public Security Bureaus will also pursue legal action to prosecute those guilty of criminal activities.
The series of target inspection and regulatory enforcement activities highlights China’s increasing oversight on cosmetic producers and distributors and demonstrates the government’s determination to eradicate illegal trade of fake and counterfeited cosmetics.
