Regulatory experts had warned that lack of Chinese label for imported cosmetics should be avoided after a local FDA launched investigation into a suspected counterfeit case that allegedly involved hundred batches of Korean cosmetics, following a recent customer complaint where the user suffered from skin rash.

According Chinese law, any commodities after going through inspection and quarantine by CIQ must be equipped with compliant Chinese labels displaying an array of crucial information including product name, ingredients, country of origin, date of manufacture, expiration data, name of domestic distributor and its address. The disappearance of Chinese label is related to potential counterfeit and the product will be sent to local FDA for further scrutiny.

An important and effective way to deal with the detrimental impact from fakery, regulatory expert suggest lies in extra inquiry by consumers to ensure the Chinese label as well as a bunch of certificates resulted from importation procedure are complete.

Background Story

When Miss Liu, a resident of Changchun city in Northeast China, first spotted and purchased a suit of cosmetic products in a local exhibition thanks to her preference of Korea-made cosmetics, she was never expecting additional cost on medical treatment for her skin which suffered gradual impairment ever since. Her suspicion over the authenticity of these products was reinforced after carefully comparing them with the same brand her friends bought directly from Korea, which reveals slight yet noticeable nuances. Complaint was immediately lodged to local FDA and a task force was assigned to conduct on-site inspection during which Chinese label along with importation certificate were found absent. Further scrutiny still ongoing in order to ascertain whether there involve fakery among these products.
