India Clarifies Imported Cosmetics Animal Testing Compliance Protocols

India Office of Drugs Controller General recently promulgated a circular to further specify the requirements for importers to comply with the ban on importation of cosmetics tested on animals.

India Office of Drugs Controller General recently promulgated a circular to further specify the requirements for importers to comply with the ban on importation of cosmetics tested on animals.

According to the circular, the importer shall submit an original report from the manufacturer (legal/actual brand owner) of all products previously registered with CDSCO. The report shall clearly state that the cosmetics being imported into India have not been tested on animals prior to the deadline of 12 November 2014. With respect to new applicants, they can submit the report to the CDSCO when applying for registration along with the import registration dossier. The animal testing free declaration is used by port offices to verify the animal testing compliance of all imported cosmetics.
