Jiangsu FDA Inspection Data Reveals Widespread Adulteration

A special half-year initiative adopted by FDA in Nantong city of Jiangsu Province to investigate and stop the illegal addition of prohibited ingredients has recently been concluded. The results of the inspection indicate that 79.03% of products were compliant with Chinese regulatory requirements

 

A special half-year initiative adopted by FDA in Nantong city of Jiangsu Province to investigate and stop the illegal addition of prohibited ingredients has recently been concluded. The results of the inspection indicate that 79.03% of products were compliant with Chinese regulatory requirements

In total 124 batches of cosmetics were inspected bear a variety of functional claims—regarded in China as “special-use”, including freckle-removing, whitening, acne-removing, wrinkle-removing and anti-aging. The inspection results show that despite the majority being qualified, illegal use of prohibited ingredients or ingredients beyond maximum permitted levels appeared in different types of cosmetics as shown in the chart below:

The inspection mainly targeted the cosmetic wholesale market, hairdressing and beauty premises and online business platforms such as Taobao and Wechat.
