Korea to Amend Usage Limit of Two Cosmetic Ingredients

On March 24 2015 Korea MFDS announced it will amend the usage limit of the compounds of Methylchloroisothiazol inone and Methylisothiazolinone and Triclosan prescribed in the Korea Cosmetic Safety Standard based on the results of hazard assessment. The amendment is now undergoing public consultation until May 26 2015.

The amendment is now undergoing public consultation until May 26 2015.

The revised usage limits are as follows:

Compounds of Methylchloroisothiazol inone and Methylisothiazolinone (including magnesium chloride and magnesium nitrate)

0.0015% for rinse-off products

(Methylchloroisothiazol inone: Methylisothiazolinone=3:1)

Prohibited for use in other products

Triclosan

0.3% for rinse-off body cleansing products, deodorants (spray products excluded) and foundation for topical use only (e.g. blemish concealer)

Prohibited for use in other products
