Korea to Classify Solid Soaps as Cosmetics

Korea will designate "solid soaps" as cosmetics. MFDS is formulating a safety standard for this product.

The Safety Department of MFDS held a H1 2017 technical and administrative system reviewing conference. During the conference, staff mainly discussed cosmetic classification issues. They reached an agreement on label and advertisement requirement of newly designated functional cosmetics such as hair dye product and epilating agent, etc. (see news "Korea Expands the Scope of Functional Cosmetics" on CL). They also intend to further expand the scope of cosmetics by newly designating 'solid soaps' from industry product to cosmetics, and are starting to formulate a new administrative scheme including safety standard and enterprise registration requirement for solid soaps.

Furthermore, the conference also suggests reclassifying children cosmetics especially makeup to increase the safety of this category.
