Korea Cosmetic Regulation: Wet Wipes Regulatory Classification Adjusted

On August 19 2014, Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued a pre-announcement of legislation on the partial amendments to “Implementing Rules for The Cosmetic Act”. The pre-announcement is open for public consultation until September 28 2014.

On August 19 2014, Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued a pre-announcement of legislation on the partial amendments to “Implementing Rules for The Cosmetic Act”. The pre-announcement is open for public consultation until September 28 2014.

 The amendments are as follows:

  • Overseas manufacturers of cosmetics that have been exempt from quality inspection will be disqualified if noncompliance during latter phase management arises.
  • When manufacturers cannot attend compulsory training courses because of natural disasters, physical illnesses or accidents, the person in charge can designate another person to attend the course instead.
  • The wet wipes for body cleansing will be categorized as cosmetics, excluding wet wipes for special use in restaurants and hospitals.
  • Manufacturers who don’t register with the competent department when the manufacturing's type changes shall be punished.
