Korean government plans to legalize customized cosmetics. Customized cosmetics refer to products made by mixing various ingredients, colors and scents according to preference.
Customized cosmetics were previously banned due to their potential risks but now the Korean government believes this kind of cosmetics will make the Korean cosmetics industry diversified and robust.
Legalized product categories include 4 types of perfumes, 10 types of skin care products and 8 types of makeup products.
Korea is ready to begin testing out the new cosmetics formulation service at selected cosmetic store brands and duty-free stores starting from March 21st.
Companies applying to become a testing outlet can register with the appropriate regional drug ministry office. Korean government plans to deliver detailed regulations governing the new customized cosmetics business in the future.
