Huang Shou-chieh of Taiwan FDA also outline how Taiwan FDA inspected 78 hair-coloring products, 21 hair-perming products and 31 sunscreen products, with a disqualification rate of 15% . 9 hair-coloring products and 1 sunscreen product were shown to contain substances not found in Taiwan FDA’s positive ingredients list. 10 products from the 20 substandard products were imported cosmetics.

A “bubble hair” product (夢17泡泡染髮乳), whose spokesperson is Jeannie Hsieh, a famous singer in Taiwan, was among the disqualified products. Restoria Discreet Color Restoring Cream (麗絲雅逐漸變黑黑髮乳), a hair product, was found to contain lead acetate.

Huang Shou-chieh warned that lead acetate can cause headache, nausea, joint pain and abdominal pain. Long-term exposure to this substance can cause kidney failure or have negative effects on the reproductive system.

Taiwan FDA advised consumers to read cosmetic labels more carefully before making purchases and encouraged them to report violations to authorities.
