Summary
This Draft Indian Standard (Part 2) lists cosmetics raw materials and adjuncts in the following four classifications:

  1. List of ingredeints termed as "GNRAS" (Generally not Recognized as Safe) which must not form part of the composition of cosmetic products;

  2. List of ingredeints which cosmetics products must not contain except subject to the restrictions and conditions laid down;

  3. List of preservatives allowed with restrictions, and

  4. List of U.V. filters allowed with restrictions.

Noteworthy Information

The raw materials and adjuncts used in cosmetics in India shall comply with the requirements/specifications specified in the following 4 Annexes.

  • Annex A — Ingredeints termed as "GNRAS" which must not form part of the composition of cosmetic products;

  • Annex B — Ingredeints which cosmetics products must not contain except subject to the restrictions and conditions laid down;

  • Annex C — Preservatives (with restrictions) which cosmetic products may contain;

  • Annex D — U.V. filters which cosmetic products (with restrictions) may contain.
