1. List of ingredeints termed as "GNRAS" (Generally not Recognized as Safe) which must not form part of the composition of cosmetic products;

2. List of ingredeints which cosmetics products must not contain except subject to the restrictions and conditions laid down;

3. List of preservatives allowed with restrictions, and

4. List of U.V. filters allowed with restrictions.

Indian standards are subject to periodic review, which may result in their reaffirmation, amendment, revision, or withdrawal as necessary.

Key amendments to IS 4707 (Part 2): 2017 include:

• First Amendment: Issued on July 14, 2017, and took effect upon publication.

• Second Amendment: Issued on November 10, 2017, adding plastic microbeads to the prohibited ingredient list. This amendment took effect upon publication.

• Third Amendment: Issued on July 24, 2018, revising two existing prohibited ingredients. This amendment took effect upon publication.

• Fourth Amendment: Issued on August 7, 2019, which added a new note to SI No. 413 in the prohibited ingredient list. This amendment took effect on September 6, 2019.

In February 2022, the BIS conducted a review of this standard, and no changes were indicated. The standard, IS 4707 (Part 2): 2017, remains in effect.
