On March 25, 2021, Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) revised some provisions of the Japanese Standards of Quasi-drug Ingredients. The new Japanese Standards of Quasi-drug Ingredients (JSQI 2021) amended multiple ingredients and test methods in JSQI 2006, replacing it as a new overarching technical standard for quasi-drugs.

The revisions has taken effect on March 25, 2021. A 1.5-year grace period which will end on September 30, 2022 was granted for stakeholders to prepare for enforcement of the new requirements.
