On May 15, 2026, Argentina's National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Devices (ANMAT) published Order No. 2820/2026, which brings Mercosur/GMC/Resolution No. 27/2025 into force at the national level. The Order updates the list of prohibited cosmetic substances, aligning domestic rules with regional safety standards.1
Under Argentina's cosmetics regulatory framework, Order No. 6433/2015 sets out the list of substances prohibited for use in cosmetic products, covering approximately 1,400 entries. The newly adopted Order amends this list by adding two substances—Trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO) and N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine (DMPT). Basic information on these substances is provided in the table below.
No. | Substance | CAS No. | EC No. |
1418 | Trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide | 75980-60-8 | 278-355-8 |
1419 | N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine | 99-97-8 | 202-805-4 |
The Order establishes a 60-day transition period from the date of its publication. Within this period, products already authorized on the market must be brought into compliance with the new requirements.
