CFDA Alerts 6 Cosmetic Products Containing Banned or Restricted Substances

On 2 Dec 2013, CFDA released a list of whitening and hair dyeing cosmetic products which failed spot checks conducted by provincial FDAs in Hebei, Jilin, Fujian, Shandong and Hunan provinces. A brightening cleanser produced by Avon was found to contain Phenol, a substance prohibited under the Hygienic Standard for Cosmetics 2007.

A brightening cleanser produced by Avon was found to contain Phenol, a substance prohibited under the Hygienic Standard for Cosmetics 2007.
Among 505 batches of products selected, 4 products were found to contain the prohibited substances Resorcinol and Phenol, and 2 were found to contain excessive level of the restricted substance, acrylamide. Cosmetic companies involved have been warned by the CDFA to issue an immediate product recall and cease all further marketing activities for these products.
