Recently, the National Bureau of Statistics of China announced cosmetics sales in 2015 amounting to 204.9 billion yuan, which represents growth of 8.8% over the same period of 2014.
According to statistics it is the first time that the annual sales value of cosmetics surpassed 200 billion yuan. The sales amount of cosmetics in 2014 was 182.5 billion yuan. Year-on-year growth was 10%.
Despite impressive growth in 2015 there are fears that as China’s economy slows down in general the cosmetics industry will also face challenges to maintain its growth.
Detailed statistics reveal that cosmetics sales were 20.4 billion yuan in December 2015. Year-on-year growth was only 5.9%, much lower than the growth seen in consumer goods (11.1%). Meanwhile, the year-on-year growth of cosmetics sales in the first half of 2015 was 9.2%, but in the final half of the year was 8.8%.
