Indonesia to Launch an Online HALAL Certification System

Indonesia will launch an online HALAL certification system for foods, drugs and cosmetics in 2018.

From 2018, products including cosmetics can apply for HALAL verification online. The service includes dossiers submission and certificate approval. The new online system is pursuant to "HALAL Product Guarantee Law 2014", which requires that cosmetics as well as foods and drugs in Indonesia must register for HALAL certification from Oct. 2019.

Further, the HALAL Certificate Issuing institution changed from Ulema Council to Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk (BPJPH) and the new institution will no longer charge any fees for HALAL Certificate.
