Takehome:
To control the safety of hair dye and sunscreen products, Indonesia will regulate requirements on ingredients used in these products such as Methylisothiazolinone, Deoxarbutin, Alpha Arbutin, Beta Arbutin and Plastic Microbeads.
1. Deoxyarbutin/ alpha arbutin/ beta arbutin
a. When using deoxyarbutin/ alpha arbutin/ beta arbutin in cosmetics, technical documents for notification are required: 1) test result of hydroquinone, 2) test result of product stability 3) clinical data of product stability during application to the skin;
b. Product containing deoxyarbutin/ alpha arbutin/ beta arbutin must indicate the storage conditions of these ingredients on the label
2. Methylisothiazolinone
Methylisothiazolinone used to be restricted to maximum concentration of 0.01%, and will be revised to maximum concentration of 0.0015% with the condition that it is only used in rinse-off preparations.
3. Sunscreen Product
a. Benzophenone-3 in sunscreen products used to be restricted to maximum concentration of 10% will be change to a maximum concentration of 6%
b. When adding Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide nanomaterials, the maximum concentration should be equal with the concentration of the normal form of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide
c. When using nanomaterial coating ingredients, the ingredients should be safe and not influence the effect of sunscreens.
4. Hair dye Product
All hair dye agent should add the warning "should not be used to color eyelashes or eyebrows".
5. Plastic Microbeads
Plastic microbeads will be prohibited in rinse-off preparations.
