Japan Clarifies Regulatory Treatment of Cosmetics Containing Triheptanoin

Triheptanoin is now classified as a pharmaceutical ingredient in Japan and is generally prohibited in cosmetics, but remains temporarily permitted at existing use levels.

On April 20, 2026, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) issued a notice regarding the handling of cosmetics containing triheptanoin, following its recent approval as a pharmaceutical ingredient.
