On 28 Feb 2014, Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced plans to implement intensified pre-market management of cosmetics. The initiative is primarily aimed at cosmetics containing hazardous ingredients.
In accordance with the “General Management Plan on Manufacture and Circulation of Cosmetics, 2014,” more stringent sample inspection will be carried out at random and catogories of cosmetics included are expanded. It is specified that products suspected of containing ingredients like steroids and heavy metals are likely to be subject to intensified scrutiny. Popular products or products subject to increased seasonal sales will likewise be subject to extensive inspections. Testing items of different products can be increased as appropriate in terms of accurate product validation.
