Following the consultation on establishing an infomation system to monitor cosmetic manufacturers (see Chemlinked news on 10 Jan 2013), the SFDA is inviting public comments on the scheme to set up a platform for risk monitoring and early warning to effectively prevent the quality and safety incidents relating to health food and cosmetics. This consultation runs until 22 Jan 2013.
The basic function covers data gathering, processing, automatic comprehensive analysis, risk data exchange and the release of early warning reports. In the long run, this platform will lay a solid foundation for the ultimate goal-an overall safety risk control system for cosmetics and health food.
Taking over the mission from the SFDA, the National Institute for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) is accountable for the establishment and maintenance of this platform, with the coordination of all food and drug departments and testing institutions.
The chart below shows the procedures of generating the statistics of risk monitoring and the early-warning report:
It will take 20 months to build this platform from survey, software engineering, risk monitoring data input, pilot run to the final launch. This platform will work in concert with the supervisory info system for monitoring the cosmetics manufacturers to oversee the whole cosmetic industry in an effective way.
