South Korea’s MFDS Reveals Framework for Upcoming Mandatory Cosmetic Safety Assessment

To harmonize national regulations with international standards, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has been preparing to introduce a safety assessment system through a series of initiatives starting in 2024, including the announcement of the plan, consultations within the public-private consultative body-"Jump Up Cosmetics" and industry engagement via policy briefings, regional meetings, and public hearings. In June 2025, South Korea took a major step forward toward introducing the safety assessment system, with a partial amendment to the Cosmetics Act proposed by National Assembly lawmakers.
