Takehome:

Taiwan released a new standard for usage and maximum concentration of permitted preservatives on Feb.15th 2017.

The new version encompasses a variety of changes compared to the previous version. 31 ingredients used as preservatives are added to the list, and maximum permitted concentrations of 2 ingredients are amended (4-Chlorophenol from 0.2% to 0.25%, Biphenyl-2-ol, and its salts from 0.3% to 0.2%). Besides, some detailed requirements are modified.

Taiwan FDA also noted that preservatives not listed can follow the requirements of Europe, US and Japan, if requirements in these three countries are different, TFDA will follow the safest standard. This note reveals two messages: 1), preservatives allowable for use in Taiwan are not restricted within the standard list; 2), Taiwan has a tendency to follow international common requirements to insure the international competency for domestic market.

Appendix: Modifications for standard of preservatives
