On 31 Dec 2013, "Taiwan Food and Drug Administration" (TFDA) promulgated the amended Standard List of Application and Maximum Levels of Preservatives in Cosmetics with effect from 1 Feb 2014.

Two preservatives, Methylisothiazolinone and Mixture of 5-Chloro-2-methyl-isothiazol-3(2H)-one and 2-Methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one with magnesium chloride and magnesium nitrate, are newly added to the list with specifications of maximum levels and warnings. Maximum level of Methylisothiazolinone is 0.01% while that of the latter depends on the type of products: the upper range for rinse-off products is 0.1%, and that for other products shall be no more than 0.0015%.  As is stipulated in the standard list, related warnings shall be indicated on the label or package of the cosmetic products.

For products containing the two preservatives manufactured or imported before 1 Feb 2014 that failed to meet the specifications in the standard list, manufacturers are required to adjust their products accordingly no later than 31 May 2014.
