Australian Labor Party Working Towards Animal Testing Ban

Australian Labor MP Claire O’Neil will introduce a private member bill to Parliament this week, proposing a ban on imported cosmetics tested on animals.
Australian Labor MP Claire O’Neil will introduce a private member bill to Parliament this week, proposing a ban on imported cosmetics tested on animals.
Nowadays, the world is going cruelty free. The European Union has already totally banned cosmetics tested on animals since 2013. Following success in Europe countries like Israel, India, Brazil, US, Vietnam, China, New Zealand, Argentina, Russia and South Korea are all moving towards cruelty free regulatory frameworks. Australia does not want to be out of the step with these countries prompting the Labor party to call on the Federal Government to support its measure.
“These tests are as gruesome as they are archaic. Rabbits have chemicals dripped into their eyes, dogs are inflicted with chemical burns and smaller animals can be force-fed toxic chemicals. It's cruelty impossible to justify for the sake of a shampoo or lip stick.” Lisa Chalk, the spokeswoman of Animals Australia commented. She said banning animal tested cosmetic products from being sold in Australia would send a strong message to the major brands to commit to ending animal testing.
The Australian Labor Party said even if this move does not succeed this time, it will endeavor to implement this policy if it wins the next election.
