CFDA Designates 6 New Testing Institutions for Cosmetics Administrative Licensing

A total of 6 new cosmetic testing institutes have been accredited by China’s CFDA to perform cosmetic testing in line with administrative licensing requirements. 5 of them are accredited to perform test relating to hygiene index and the other one for clinical trials. Until now there are 33 designated testing institutions to undertake the testing of new cosmetic ingredient, domestic special use cosmetics and cosmetics imported for the first time and issue testing reports: 26 hygiene safety testing institutions and 7 human safety testing institutions.

On April 25, CFDA appended the list of accredited cosmetics testing Institutions for Administrative License with 6 newly designated testing institutions. The 6 new institutions are as follows:

The first five are appointed as hygiene safety testing institutions responsible for microbiological test, hygienic chemical test and toxicological test while Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is designated as a human safety testing institution undertaking human safety tests and in vivo testing of sunscreen UV protection efficacy. Until now there are 33 designated testing institutions to undertake the testing of new cosmetic ingredient, domestic special use cosmetics and cosmetics imported for the first time and issue testing reports: 26 hygiene safety testing institutions and 7 human safety testing institutions.

The qualification of the above institutions is valid for 4 years. When it expires the CFDA will review the institutions. During the validity period, the CFDA will also inspect their testing work regularly and conduct on-site check and will punish institutions violating provisions in proportion to the seriousness of violoation.
