China to Include Nine Testing Methods in Cosmetic Safety and Technical Standards: 5 New, 4 Revised

As revealed by the No. 2019-12 Notice of China NMPA on March 22, 9 testing methods including 5 new methods and 4 revised methods will be included in the Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics.

As of January 1, 2020, the relevant testing of cosmetic registration, filing and supervision and inspection shall adopt these nine testing methods.

In Chemico Skin Sensitization: Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay (DPRA)This method applies to the evaluation of potential skin sensitization of a single component (a quantitatively composed substance with at least 80% (W/W) of one of the major components) or a multicomponent (a quantitatively composed substance, the content of more than one component is greater than or equal to 10%, and less than 80%) cosmetic ingredients.

Determination of 10 α-hydroxy acid in cosmetics
  • This method applies to the determination of α-hydroxy acids in water, cream and lotion cosmetics.

  • The α-hydroxy acids in this method include glucuronic acid, tartaric acid, glycolic acid, malic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, DL-2-hydroxybutyric acid sodium, mandelic acid, benzilic acid and hydroxycaprylic acid.
