Korea to Ban Phenylparaben and Chloroacetamide in Cosmetics

Two amendments to Korea’s Cosmetic Safety Standard were promulgated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) will be implemented from January 23 2015.

Two amendments to Korea’s Cosmetic Safety Standard were promulgated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) will be implemented from January 23 2015. The amendments are as follows:

  • Phenylparaben and Chloroacetamide will be prohibited from usage in cosmetics and will be deleted from the list of preservatives.
  • Products with volume ≤ 150 g(ml) and volume ≥ 150 g(ml) should be marked with “volume ≥ 97%”.
