On March 16, 2026, New Zealand's Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) announced a public consultation on its proposal to restrict three Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), including a subgroup of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) commonly used in personal care products. The move aims to align with the country's international obligations under the Stockholm Convention and mitigate the environmental and health risks associated with these "forever chemicals." The public is invited to provide feedback on the proposed changes until April 17, 2026.
