SFDA Prompts to Revise Provisions on Labeling of Health Food and Cosmetics

Recently, SFDA has held a symposium on health food and cosmetics to solicit suggestions from the public and promote the quality of the government’s supervision. Deputies engaged in the production and operation of health food and cosmetics, relevant officials and some media representatives were invited to attend this meeting, which mainly discuss the important issues, including the management of ingredients and labeling of health food, crack-down on counterfeit products and the administrative licensing of new cosmetic ingredients.

Health food and cosmetic products are closely connected to human health. Therefore, correct labeling, legal advertising and safe use by consumers are of critical significance. Last year, SFDA re-consulted Provisions on the Administration of Cosmetics Labeling and its supporting document-Guide to the Labeling of Cosmetics and Provision on the Management of the Instructions and Labeling of Health Food, but never officially put them into force till now. However, it was reported by officials that SFDA will revise and release them as soon as possible.

Apart from daily supervision and special check over health food and cosmetics, the next move of SFDA will concentrate on the reform of administrative licensing system and reinforce post-market surveillance with risk-based management approach.
